THE WINE
Quinta dos Murças VV47 Red 2017 is an exceptional Douro DOC wine crafted from the estate's historic vertical vineyard planted in 1947 (the first of its kind in the region). This wine embodies the essence of Douro's schist terroir, offering elegance, balance, and complexity. The 2017 vintage, marked by extreme heat and drought, yielded intensely concentrated grapes harvested on September 20th. Fermented in granite lagares with foot treading and aged 18 months in used French oak, it showcases mature fruit, balsamic depth, and fine tannins. With 13% alcohol and vibrant acidity, it has outstanding aging potential.

VARIETAL COMPOSITION
Field blend of indigenous varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Rufete, Marufo, and others.

VINEYARD NOTES
The grapes come from the historic VV47 vineyard, planted in 1947 on steep southeast-facing schist slopes in the Douro Valley. This pioneering vertical vineyard (planted up-and-down the slope) benefits from optimal sun exposure and natural drainage. The 2017 growing season was exceptionally hot and dry, accelerating ripening but preserving acidity through cold nights. Old vines (70+ years) with deep roots in schist soils produce low yields of intensely flavored berries. Sustainable practices (SATIVA certification) ensure minimal intervention.

TASTING NOTES
The wine displays a deep ruby color with violet hues. The nose is complex and lively, revealing ripe red fruits (cherry, plum), balsamic notes, and a hint of wild herbs. On the palate, it combines elegance with structure-silky tannins and bright acidity frame flavors of dark berries, spice, and mineral undertones. The finish is long and persistent, with a touch of licorice and earthy complexity. A wine of remarkable balance, it will evolve beautifully over the next decade.
