THE WINE
Esporão Reserva Red is a premium wine from Herdade do Esporão in Portugal's Alentejo region. First produced in 1985, this wine exemplifies the rich, ripe fruit character typical of Alentejo reds. Made from estate-grown grapes, it reflects the region's excellence in winemaking. The 2013 vintage benefited from lower rainfall, yielding concentrated, high-quality grapes. The wine is full-bodied, with structured tannins and a textured palate, offering great potential for bottle maturation. Ideal for consumption between 2016 and 2022, it is available in 750 ml, 1.5 L, and 3 L formats.

VARIETAL COMPOSITION
Aragonês, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet.

VINEYARD NOTES
years, The grapes for Esporão Reserva Red 2013 were grown in clay loam soils with granite and schist bedrock, contributing to the wine's depth and complexity. The vines have an average age of 15 ensuring balanced fruit expression. The Alentejo region's warm climate and lower-than-average rainfall in 2013 resulted in smaller yields but highly concentrated grapes. Sustainable viticulture practices are employed to maintain soil health and grape quality, reflecting Esporão's commitment to environmental stewardship.

TASTING NOTES
The Esporão Reserva Red presents a deep, dark red color with an opaque center, hinting at its intensity. On the nose, it offers focused aromas of dark berry fruits, layered with toasty oak notes from its barrel aging. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, with well-structured tannins that provide a solid yet elegant framework. Flavors of ripe blackberries and plums dominate, balanced by a touch of spice and a refreshing acidity. The wine's dense, concentrated profile and long, harmonious finish underscore its potential for further bottle maturation, making it a standout expression of Alentejo's terroir.
