THE WINE
Quinta do Crasto Touriga Franca 2018 is a single-varietal expression of one of Douro's noblest grapes, showcasing the purity and typicity of this Portuguese classic. From a challenging yet rewarding vintage, this wine reflects the resilience of old vines (35+ years) grown on steep terraces. The 2018 growing season saw drought followed by heavy spring rains, requiring meticulous vineyard management to combat mildew. The resulting wine, aged 18 months in French oak, balances concentration with freshness, offering wild berry aromas, structured tannins, and a persistent finish. A testament to Quinta do Crasto's expertise with Touriga Franca.

VINEYARD NOTES
The grapes hail from Quinta do Crasto's best east-south-facing Touriga Franca plots at 300 meters altitude in the Douro Valley. Planted on terraces ("patamares") with schist soils, the 35-year-old vines endured a dramatic 2018 season: drought until February, followed by excessive spring rains that demanded precise mildew control. Hot August days and cold nights allowed slow ripening, preserving acidity. Low yields (due to old vines and careful selection) ensured concentrated berries. Sustainable practices maintain soil health in this UNESCO-recognized landscape.
TASTING NOTES
Deep purple in color, the wine opens with intense aromas of wild blackberries, blueberries, and violets, layered with subtle spice and earthy undertones. The palate is full-bodied yet elegant, with velvety tannins and vibrant acidity framing flavors of ripe dark fruit, black pepper, and a touch of vanilla. The finish is long and fresh, with mineral notes reflecting its schist terroir. While approachable now, its structure promises excellent aging potential (10+ years).
