THE WINE
Relentless honors Shafer's long-time winemaker with a Syrah-led blend from ridgetop and foothill sites along the Vaca Mountains just south of Stags Leap District. The vintage delivered deep color, purity and lift. After native-leaning fermentations, the wine matured 28 months in 100% new French oak (Allier & Tronçais), building polish and dimension. The result is plush yet delineated: a Napa Valley Rhône-style red of striking intensity, savory nuance and age-worthy balance, bottled with finesse.
VARIETAL COMPOSITION
Syrah 97%, Petite Sirah 3%
VINEYARD NOTES
Sourced from rugged, elevated parcels bordering the southern edge of Stags Leap District, where thin, rocky soils and persistent breezes moderate ripening and concentrate flavor. Meticulous farming targets uniform phenolic maturity. Small-lot vinifications capture site detail; élevage in new French oak for 28 months integrates tannins, shapes texture and frames spice without obscuring fruit. The combination of altitude, exposure and long aging underpins density, aromatic precision and refined power.
TASTING NOTES
Alluring scents of black plum, blackberry and blueberry meet white pepper, smoked bacon, dark chocolate and a graphite thread. The palate is opulent yet energetic, with liquid-velvet texture and layers of blue-black fruit, cocoa nib and savory spice. Fine, ripe tannins and lively acidity create tension and drive. The finish is expansive and persistent, echoing pepper, cured meat and violet. A standout vintage built for a decade or more in cellar; decant for immediate aromatic glory.
